KognitCapture

Self-hosted intelligent document processing

Capture every page.
Pay for none of them.

KognitCapture is a multi-tenant, self-hosted capture platform that replaces ABBYY FlexiCapture, ABBYY Vantage, Kofax/Tungsten, ChronoScan, Rossum and Ephesoft — with no per-page meter, no station licences and no module unlocks. Your documents stay on your hardware. Your bill stops moving when your volume grows.

Runs on Linux and PostgreSQL. Browser-only operator hubs — nothing installed on a desk. Tesseract, local GGUF models or thirteen remote LLM providers, switchable per project.

Why buyers move

Four arguments the incumbents cannot answer at once.

Unit economics

Your bill stops scaling with your volume

Metered platforms charge roughly $0.02–0.10 a page (public list bands). At two million pages that is a page bill on top of a platform fee. Here recognition runs on your own CPU with Tesseract or a local model: the marginal cost of the next page is the electricity to read it. Use a remote LLM if you want to — tokens are logged and costed per tenant, and you decide which projects may call out at all.

Sovereignty

Documents never leave your estate

Self-hosted on Linux and PostgreSQL, air-gap capable, with local GGUF models for both text and vision. Tenant → organisation → project isolation reaches down to the storage prefix, and every agent, API key and operator action lands in an audit channel. There is no licence server to phone home to, because there is no licence gate.

Operations

Nothing installed on an operator's desk

Scanning, processing and verification hubs are browser pages. Network scanners are driven server-side over eSCL, so a scanning desk needs a browser and nothing else — no thick client, no TWAIN driver rollout, no per-station licence. The hubs also embed into your own application behind an API key, which is how software vendors ship capture without building it.

Multi-tenancy

One install, every client you onboard

FlexiCapture, ReadSoft and ChronoScan expect one deployment per customer. This platform was built tenanted: a service provider runs twenty clients on one cluster, with per-tenant storage, roles, retention, LLM budgets and audit. That is the single strongest number in any business case a BPO or MSP puts together.

Timing

ABBYY is moving FlexiCapture accounts to Vantage. That is a rebuild, not a transfer.

There is no converter that turns a FlexiCapture document definition into a Vantage skill — practitioners describe the path as inventory, map, rebuild, re-integrate, run in parallel, and ABBYY deployments are commonly quoted at eight to twelve weeks. If you have to rebuild anyway, the honest question is no longer “replace something that works” but “rebuild there, or rebuild here”.

Read the migration brief →

Where we say no

Four situations where we will tell you to buy something else.

  • SAP-native accounts payable posted inside the ERP — ReadSoft owns that; we feed it.
  • A TWAIN or ISIS-only production scanner estate with no eSCL support.
  • Procurement that must shortlist from the IDP Magic Quadrant.
  • Buyers who need SOC 2 or ISO 27001 held by the software vendor, not the operator.

We would rather lose the deal in week one than in month six.

See it working

The demo is the product's own interface, not a slide.

Project configuration, the scanning hub with its assembly board, and the verification hub with zone overlays, confidence bars and validation errors — rendered from the application's own stylesheets and markup.

Questions we get in week one

Straight answers, including the awkward ones.

Is open-source OCR really good enough to replace ABBYY?
On clean 300 DPI print, Tesseract 5 is competitive. On degraded scans, dense forms and non-Latin scripts, ABBYY's engine still reads measurably better — we will not pretend otherwise. The answer for those documents is the hybrid path: Tesseract first, and low-confidence words or whole pages re-read by a vision model, local or remote, at your choice. The only way to settle it is a bake-off on your own documents — a paid engagement at our consulting rate, which is what we propose in every evaluation.
What does it actually cost?
A platform licence for the deployment, not a meter on your documents. Above roughly 100,000–150,000 pages a year, self-hosting is decisively cheaper than a metered IDP service and the gap widens every year. Below that, a metered platform is often genuinely cheaper than running infrastructure — we will say so. Run the numbers on the pricing page.
Do we have to send documents to an AI provider?
No. Recognition can be entirely local: Tesseract for text, a local GGUF model for vision through a managed llama-server. Thirteen remote providers are supported for teams that want them, per project, with tokens and cost logged per tenant. An air-gapped install is a supported deployment, not a workaround.
Can we keep our scanners?
If they speak eSCL (AirScan/Mopria) — which covers most networked MFPs and modern departmental scanners — yes, and the server drives them directly, so operators install nothing. Older production scanners that are TWAIN or ISIS only cannot be driven at all. That is a hardware fact, and we ask what is on your floor before the demo rather than after it.
What happens to our existing templates?
Field sets, validation rules and export mappings are rebuilt here — the same work any migration between capture platforms requires, including ABBYY's own path from FlexiCapture to Vantage. What shortens it: six industry blueprints that provision a project, workflow, routing, upload endpoint, export goal and a full field set in one action, and model-assisted template authoring that drafts a template from one sample page. Blueprints ship pre-authored field sets, not pre-trained models — see the migration brief for what that means in weeks.
Is the bake-off free?
No. The 15-minute scanner and volume call is free, and so is the demo. The bake-off is paid work at our standard consulting rate, scoped and quoted before we start: someone reads your documents, authors templates, runs Tesseract, the hybrid path and the model path over them, and writes up field-level accuracy with the cost per thousand pages of each mode. It runs one to two consulting days — two is the ceiling, never a week. Pilots are quoted the same way, separately from the platform licence. You keep the report whatever it concludes — including when it concludes that a competitor reads your paper better.
Who is behind it, and what if you disappear?
KognitCapture is self-hosted and source-available to customers: there is no licence server that can switch your installation off, and an escrow or source arrangement is part of the standard enterprise conversation rather than an exception to it.

Platform

Everything between the paper and the ERP.

Ingestion, image processing, recognition, extraction, classification, human review, workflow, export, tenancy, audit and an agent surface — one artifact, one database, one licence-free install. Below is the capability list a capture evaluation actually walks through.

01 · Ingestion

Thirteen ways in

Browser scanning hub, server-side eSCL network scanners, WebUSB direct-attach, watched folders, IMAP / Gmail OAuth / Microsoft 365 mailboxes, FTP and SFTP with remote globbing, REST sync and async submission, Kafka, AMQP and ZeroMQ, e-invoice intake (UBL, CII, PDF/A-3 attachments, PDF+XML pairs) and paired mobile handsets.

02 · Image & recognition

Sixteen pre-processing steps, three recognition paths

Deskew, despeckle, binarize, crop, line and punch-hole removal, colour dropout and more, ordered per project. Then Tesseract 5, a local GGUF vision model, or one of thirteen remote LLM providers — with a hybrid mode that only escalates the words the first pass was unsure about. Barcodes decode through ZXing, not through OCR text.

03 · Extraction

Templates you can reason about, plus a model when you want one

Zones, label search, regex, checksums, datasets and scripts — deterministic and auditable. Table extraction for line items, geometrically or through a grammar-constrained model. Templates can be drafted by a model from a single sample page, then trained from operator corrections, with alternatives per supplier layout.

04 · Human review

A verification hub built for speed, not for screenshots

Document mode with page image, zone overlays and hOCR click-to-fill; guided field review for everything low-confidence or invalid; and word groups, where one correction fixes the same misread word everywhere it appears. Validation errors carry severity, field and message. One-time share links let an outsider verify a single document without an account.

05 · Workflow & export

Flow-driven, with real code where you need it

A workflow engine with steps, routing, SLA monitoring and retention; scripting and a plugin SDK for the things no product anticipates. Export to REST, JDBC, file systems, S/FTP, mail and message buses, in eight formats including searchable PDF, PDF/A-2b, multi-page TIFF, UBL and mapped XML.

06 · Platform

Tenancy, clustering and an agent surface with a bouncer

Tenant → organisation → project isolation, project-scoped roles, per-tenant storage prefixes and retention policy. Duty-aware clustering: nodes declare what they are willing to do — import, workflow, export, UI, schedule — and claim work with SKIP LOCKED, so OCR scales separately from delivery. 109 curated MCP tools sit behind OAuth 2.1, scopes, risk tiers and their own audit channel.

What is honest to say about the newest parts

Line-item extraction is new code: it works, and we insist on a bake-off against your real invoices before anyone promises accuracy. The six industry blueprints ship pre-authored field sets, not pre-trained models. The mobile lane — pairing, per-device revocable keys, fleet enrolment — is complete on the platform side; the handset camera client is not shipped yet. We would rather you read that here than discover it in week three.

Pricing

One licence for the deployment. None for your documents.

Capture pricing normally has four dials: pages, stations, modules and users. We use one — the deployment. Add operators, add projects, add tenants, double your volume: the licence does not move. What moves is your infrastructure bill, and you can see it.

Cost model

Illustrative, not a quote. Metered figures use the public $0.02–0.10 per-page band plus a platform floor; the self-hosted line assumes three commodity nodes, PostgreSQL, no GPU, and a fraction of an engineer's time. One column grows with volume. The other does not.

LineWhat it isPer year
Send me this model Put it to the test on your documents

Not binding, and deliberately conservative. Competitor figures are published list bands and analyst-reported benchmarks applied to the numbers you set here; your negotiated price will differ. The self-hosted column is infrastructure and your own team only — it does not include cloud hosting, a managed service, implementation, migration, training, support, or the bake-off and pilot engagements — all of those are consulting work, quoted separately and billed at our standard rate. We would rather you argued with this model than took it on trust.

Migration brief

If you have to rebuild anyway, rebuild where the meter stops.

ABBYY is moving FlexiCapture customers to Vantage. The industry consensus on that path is blunt: it is a rebuild, not a transfer. There is no converter that turns a FlexiCapture document definition into a Vantage skill, because the two are architected differently — and ABBYY deployments are commonly quoted at eight to twelve weeks.

What that means for your negotiation

The switching cost your incumbent normally enjoys is temporarily gone. You are being asked for a fresh three-year commitment, a fresh implementation project, and a move from a licence you own to a transaction meter — for the same documents you process today. That is the one moment when a challenger starts level.

The window closes as each account completes its migration. It does not reopen.

What we will not claim

We do not import FlexiCapture document definitions today. Your field sets, zones and validation rules are rebuilt here — the same work the Vantage path asks of you. What differs is what you get for the weeks: a platform with no per-page meter, no station licences, and a rebuild you do once rather than again at the next product transition.

How a migration actually runs

Scanner audit, before the demo

We ask what is on your floor first. eSCL-capable MFPs and modern departmental scanners are driven server-side with nothing installed. A TWAIN-or-ISIS-only production estate is a blocker, and we say so before you spend time on an evaluation.

Inventory and blueprint

We list document types, field sets, validations and export targets. Then a blueprint provisions the project, workflow, routing, upload endpoint, export goal and a full field set in one action, so week one starts on your documents rather than on configuration screens.

Template authoring, model-assisted

Drop in a sample page and a draft template comes back — zones, field names, data types — in vision, text or hOCR mode. An operator corrects it; the template trains from those corrections. Per-supplier layouts become alternatives on the same template rather than new projects.

Parallel run, with field-level agreement

Same input into both systems, then a report of where the two disagree, field by field. Every migration guide ends this way; we would rather start there. It is also the only fair way to settle the accuracy question on your own paper.

Cutover, and the licence conversation you no longer have

Export mappings switch over, the old meter stops. Scaling recognition later is a hardware decision — add a node, declare its duties — not a procurement one.

Bake-off

Send us 200 of your most relevant pages.

Not the clean ones. The faxed ones, the stapled ones, the supplier who changes layout every quarter. We run them through Tesseract, hybrid and model paths and publish field-level accuracy back to you — including the fields we lose on.

A bake-off is paid work, not a free trial. It is scoped and quoted up front at our standard consulting rate, and it runs one to two days — two at most: reading your documents, authoring templates, running the engines and writing up the field-level results. You own the report either way, and if we lose it says so.

Partners · VAR · OEM · BPO

Sell capture without a vendor taking the upside.

Every capture licence you resell today has a meter in it, and that meter belongs to someone else. Here the platform is flat and self-hosted, so the margin between what a client pays and what the software costs is yours to price — on implementation, on managed service, on the per-tenant economics of one install serving twenty clients.

Reseller / VAR

Deal registration and protected margin

Register the opportunity, keep the account. Partner pricing, NFR licences for your own lab, joint technical pre-sales on the first two deals, and second-line support from the people who wrote the code. Your services revenue is untouched by us.

OEM / ISV

Capture inside your own product

The scanning and verification hubs embed in an iframe behind API keys and an access-rule proxy, with your chrome around them. Your users never see a second product. Nobody else in this market sells capture in that shape — most vendors will sell you an SDK and a services project instead.

BPO / MSP

Twenty clients, one install

Tenant → organisation → project isolation with per-tenant storage, roles, retention, audit and LLM budgets. The marginal cost of onboarding client twenty-one is a database row, not a licence. That is the number your business case turns on.

What you get

  • Partner pricing with registered-deal protection
  • NFR install for demos, labs and training
  • Second-line support with direct access to engineering

What we look for

  • Document capture, ECM, ERP or AP automation already in your portfolio
  • Implementation capability — you configure, we build product
  • A market where sovereignty, volume or embedding beats an analyst quadrant
  • Willingness to run an honest bake-off instead of a feature checklist

Interactive demo · fixture data

The actual interface, running on made-up documents.

This is the product's own markup and stylesheets — the same header, sidebar, hubs and field rows an operator sees. The documents are synthetic and nothing is submitted anywhere. Click a field or a zone in the verification hub; open the project configuration modal; switch the app to dark mode from its own toggle.

Or drive it the way an operator does: the top menu switches section, the sidebar walks all thirty-one screens — batches, documents, queues, templates, classifiers, scripts, connections, datasets, import profiles, users, tenants, the cluster and the audit log — and the row buttons drill into the classifier, the alternative designer, a dataset and an import profile's mapping.

What happens next

Day 1 — scanner and volume check

Fifteen minutes. If your estate rules us out, you hear it here.

Days 2–3 — bake-off (paid, 1–2 days)

Your pages through Tesseract, hybrid and model paths, with per-field accuracy and the cost per thousand pages of each mode. Scoped and quoted first, then billed at our standard consulting rate — one to two days of work, two at most, however many document types you send.

Week 2 — pilot (paid)

One document type end to end: intake, recognition, verification, export into your target system, running on your own hardware or ours. Also a quoted engagement — the platform licence and the work to stand it up are separate lines.

Alternatives · Incumbent · on-prem

The FlexiCapture alternative for teams who refuse the meter.

FlexiCapture is the closest architectural match to this platform, and the system our parity checklist was written against. Its advantage is depth compounded over two decades. Ours is everything about the deal: Linux and PostgreSQL instead of a Windows estate, tenancy instead of one install per customer, browser hubs instead of thick clients, and a licence that does not count your pages.

The honest read

They win

  • Recognition accuracy on degraded scans, dense forms and non-Latin scripts
  • Handwriting and ICR through a dedicated engine, not a model call
  • A large integrator ecosystem and certified ERP connectors
  • FlexiLayout: two decades of template craft you can hire for

We win

  • Real multi-tenancy — tenant → organisation → project, down to the storage prefix
  • Linux and PostgreSQL; no Windows estate, no IIS, no MS SQL licences
  • Browser-only scanning, processing and verification hubs — nothing installed
  • LLM extraction and verification, local or remote, switchable per project
  • E-invoice intake (UBL, CII, PDF/A-3) without a network subscription
  • Zero per-page cost and no licence server to phone home to

Where we lead

Service providers running many clients on one install. FlexiCapture makes you deploy — and pay — per client; here client twenty-one is a database row.

Switching

ABBYY is moving FlexiCapture accounts to Vantage, and that path is a rebuild rather than a transfer — there is no converter from a document definition to a Vantage skill. If you are being asked to rebuild anyway, rebuilding here costs the same weeks and ends without a meter.

Questions buyers ask us about ABBYY FlexiCapture

Can you import our FlexiCapture document definitions?
Not today. Field sets, zones and validations are rebuilt here — the same work the Vantage path asks of you. What shortens it is blueprint provisioning and model-assisted template authoring: drop in a sample page, get a draft template with zones and data types, correct it, train it.
Is Tesseract going to lose against the ABBYY engine?
On degraded scans and dense forms, yes, measurably. That is why the hybrid path exists: Tesseract first, low-confidence words or pages re-read by a vision model. Settle it with a bake-off on your own documents — we publish the fields we lose.
We run ICR-heavy forms. Should we switch?
Probably not on that use case alone. Handwriting runs through the model path here, which carries a cost per page and a latency the traditional engines do not. We price it honestly rather than pretending the gap is closed.

Alternatives · Cloud IDP

The Vantage alternative for buyers who cannot rent their documents.

Vantage is genuinely fast to value: pre-trained skills, a marketplace advertising 150+ use cases, no ops burden. What you give up is where the documents live, whose models read them, and whether the bill grows with the business. This platform gives up day-one accuracy instead — and hands you sovereignty, unit economics and code you can change.

The honest read

They win

  • Day-one accuracy from pre-trained skills — no template drawn
  • A marketplace of pre-trained models for 150+ use cases
  • No infrastructure to run; a private-cloud option on Azure
  • Continuous model improvement you inherit for free

We win

  • Documents never leave your estate — air-gapped installs are supported
  • Models can be fully local: GGUF for text and vision, no outbound call
  • Cost does not scale with volume; there is no transaction meter
  • Unlimited customisation in real code: scripts, plugin SDK, workflow steps
  • Multi-tenant by design, so one install serves every client you onboard
  • Deterministic template extraction you can audit, not just a model's opinion

Where we lead

Sovereignty and unit economics — regulated buyers, high volumes and genuinely air-gapped sites, where a per-transaction cloud is either forbidden or ruinous.

Questions buyers ask us about ABBYY Vantage

Vantage has pre-trained skills. What do we get on day one?
A blueprint — finance, accounts payable, insurance, KYC, anti-money-laundering or supply chain — that provisions the project, workflow, routing, upload endpoint, export goal and a full field set in one action. That is a pre-authored field set, not a pre-trained model: you still author the template, with a model drafting it from a sample page. We would rather state that plainly than lose the pilot.
Can we run entirely offline?
Yes. Tesseract for text and a local GGUF vision model through a managed llama-server cover recognition with no outbound network. Vantage cannot run offline.
How does the cost curve actually compare?
Below roughly 100–150k pages a year, a metered platform is often cheaper than running infrastructure — we say so. Above it the gap widens every year, and for a service provider with twenty clients on one install it is not close.

Alternatives · Conversion server

The FineReader Server alternative that does not stop at the PDF.

FineReader Server converts paper to searchable PDF/A at volume — roughly 2,000–2,400 pages an hour on an 8-core machine — with light indexing. This platform produces the same output formats and then keeps going: templates, validation, human review, workflow, export and tenancy, at no cost per page.

The honest read

They win

  • Raw pages per hour on conversion-only work
  • Recognition accuracy on the degraded scans that fill archive projects
  • Two decades of hardening in scan-to-archive deployments

We win

  • The same searchable PDF, PDF/A-2b and multi-page TIFF output
  • Everything downstream of the page: extraction, validation, review, workflow, export
  • Multi-tenancy and per-tenant retention policy for archive service providers
  • No per-page cost, and no volume tier to renegotiate when a backlog lands

Where we lead

Conversion-only accounts can now be served end to end — but benchmark pages per hour on the target hardware before anyone promises volume. We will run that benchmark with you.

Switching

A conversion account usually turns into a capture account within two years — someone always asks for the invoice number out of the PDF. Moving now means the second project is a configuration change rather than a second procurement.

Read the migration brief →

Questions buyers ask us about FineReader Server

Can you match its pages per hour?
Not as a blanket claim. Throughput here scales by adding nodes that declare the workflow duty, and the honest answer for any given box is a benchmark on your hardware and your paper. We run it before quoting volume.
Is your PDF/A really PDF/A?
The renditions assert PDF/A-2b with an sRGB output intent and PDF/A identification in XMP, built with PDFBox from stored page images and persisted word geometry. Archive buyers audit that claim, and we encourage validating a sample set with veraPDF as part of acceptance.

The Kofax alternative for buyers who need capture, not a suite.

Tungsten's footprint is the widest in this market: capture, orchestration, RPA, analytics, an e-invoicing network, and — since 2026.1 — LLM classification, email intake and MCP. If you need all of that, buy it. If you need capture, you are paying an order of magnitude more for the parts you will never switch on.

The honest read

They win

  • The scanner ecosystem, with VRS as the image-processing benchmark
  • Orchestration far beyond capture: RPA, analytics, process modelling
  • An e-invoicing network sold as a service
  • An analyst-recognised position that clears procurement on its own

We win

  • Price by an order of magnitude — flat licence, no page meter, no module unlocks
  • Deployment simplicity: one artifact, PostgreSQL, done in an afternoon
  • MCP parity — an agent surface with OAuth 2.1, scopes, risk tiers and its own audit channel
  • Multi-tenancy without a second deployment
  • Browser-only hubs, embeddable in your own product

Read the migration brief →

Questions buyers ask us about Kofax / Tungsten

We already run TotalAgility for process automation. Why change capture?
You may not need to. The strongest shape is often capture here, feeding your existing orchestration through REST, JDBC, message bus or file drop — you keep the process estate and stop paying capture volume fees.
Does anything replace VRS?
The pre-processing chain covers deskew, despeckle, binarize, crop, line and punch-hole removal and colour dropout, ordered per project. VRS remains the benchmark on hostile paper; on ordinary departmental scanning the difference rarely survives a bake-off.

Alternatives · Template-free IDP

The Rossum alternative for documents that are not invoices.

Rossum is the sharpest counter-argument to template-based capture: nothing drawn, nothing trained by hand, and a model that reads layouts it has never seen. On invoices and purchase orders that is a different product philosophy, not a feature gap. It is also cloud-only, per-document, and opaque when you need to explain why a field came out the way it did.

The honest read

They win

  • Zero-configuration accuracy on transactional documents
  • Line items without a drawn table, and continuous learning from corrections
  • A validation screen built for one job and polished for it

We win

  • Everything that is not a transactional document: forms, IDs, contracts, claims, dossiers
  • Self-hosting and offline models — no document leaves the estate
  • No per-document meter; volume changes your hardware, not your contract
  • Deterministic extraction you can pin, audit and explain to a regulator
  • Multi-tenancy, workflow, scripting and export as part of the platform

Buyers who need auditable, deterministic extraction they can reason about — or whose documents are forms, IDs and contracts rather than invoices.

Switching

The usual outcome is not replacement but division of labour: Rossum-style model extraction on invoices, deterministic capture here for every other document class — under one workflow, one audit trail and one export layer.

Read the migration brief →

Questions buyers ask us about Rossum

Do we have to draw a template for every supplier?
No. A template carries alternatives for layouts that differ, label search finds fields that move, and the model paths read documents you have not templated at all. Where a template does earn its keep is auditability: the same input produces the same output, and the field says which method produced it.
Can you learn from corrections the way Rossum does?
Templates train from operator corrections, and the verification hub's word-group mode applies one correction everywhere the same misread text appears. It is a different mechanism from a continuously retrained global model, and it stays inside your tenant.

The ChronoScan alternative for the day one machine stops being enough.

ChronoScan is genuinely good value and we will not pretend otherwise: zonal OCR, barcodes, hot folders, ODBC round-trips and AI extraction with your own API key, for a perpetual licence that starts around €245. What it is not is a multi-user server platform — and that is usually what breaks first.

The honest read

They win

  • Near-zero cost and a trivial single-machine setup
  • Searchable PDF output and ODBC round-trip validation
  • Zonal, dual-engine OCR with per-zone image tuning

We win

  • A multi-user server architecture with roles, audit and RBAC
  • Tenancy — separate clients, separate storage, separate retention
  • A workflow engine, REST API, clustering and browser hubs
  • E-invoice intake and mapped XML export without bolt-ons
  • Recognition cost accounting: tokens and spend logged per tenant, not just borrowed keys

Questions buyers ask us about ChronoScan

We are happy with ChronoScan. When should we move?
When a second operator, a second client, an audit requirement or a compliance question arrives. Those are the four triggers we see — not features.
Is this overkill for one mailroom?
Possibly, and we will say so on the call. A single-machine install runs fine here, but if you will never need users, tenants, workflow or audit, the cheaper tool is the right tool.

The Ephesoft alternative for a site facing a Tungsten renewal.

This is the comparison that flatters us least, and we would rather write it ourselves: Java, Linux-capable, on-premises, batch classes, classification, extraction, validation, scripting, ECM export — much of the same ground, held since long before this project started. What changed is who owns it, and what a renewal now looks like.

The honest read

They win

  • TWAIN capture through its scan client
  • Classification pedigree and years of batch-class practice

We win

Questions buyers ask us about Ephesoft Transact

The Textract alternative for teams about to build a capture platform by accident.

Textract is frequently the real competitor in a build-versus-buy conversation: a team proposes Textract plus glue code instead of a capture platform. It is excellent at what it does. What it does not do is workflow, templates, validation, human review, tenancy, audit or export — which is the part that becomes an unowned internal product by year two.

The honest read

They win

  • Recognition quality with zero operations and elastic scale
  • Pre-trained expense, ID and lending APIs
  • A bill that starts at nothing

We win

  • Being the platform: intake, workflow, templates, validation, review, tenancy, audit, export
  • Operator hubs that already exist, including a review UI you do not have to build
  • $0 per page after the hardware, with local models if you want them
  • One system to run instead of a Lambda estate nobody owns

Where we lead

The second year — when the glue code has become an internal product with no owner and the page bill has grown linear with volume.

Questions buyers ask us about Amazon Textract

Our developers say they can wire this up in a sprint.
The recognition call, yes. The forty-odd capabilities around it — batch assembly, separator handling, template versioning, validation rules, an operator review UI, retries, retention, audit, tenant isolation, export mapping — are the sprint that never ends. Ask what happens when the person who wrote it leaves.
Can we use Textract as an engine here?
Recognition is pluggable and the plugin SDK exists for exactly this. Most teams end up local for volume and remote for the hard pages.
